In early 1997, members of Canadian Litigation Counsel began to recognize the benefits that
could be derived from expanding the affiliation beyond Canada. At that point, and indeed to date,
there are only two recognized affiliations with similar purposes and structures outside Canada.
One is the Harmonie Group in the United States. The founders of this group are experienced and well respected members of
the defence bar who, in 1993, began forming a national network of high quality law firms that have proven ability to serve the special
needs of the risk industry. Development of the Harmonie Group followed a similar path to that of Canadian Litigation Counsel and
has resulted in a similar structure. The Harmonie Group currently has 57 member firms in 47 states. Its lawyers practice
in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
In 1999, CLC affiliated with the Harmonie Group to enable their respective independent law firms to provide seamless, high-quality,
cost-effective litigation services throughout North America.
At or about the same time, a similar organization was being development throughout Europe by the London based law firm of Beachcroft
Wansborough. As this affiliation expands throughout Scandinavia, South America and the far East, CLC’s affiliation with it enables
CLC to provide its clientele with representation in an increasing number of jurisdictions around the world.
